Biometrics – FRASS Value Discovery

In FRASS, biometrics are not a spreadsheet column. They are the engine of value discovery. We convert field-observed tree form into merchantable logs through the Flex Taper (δ) algorithm, reconcile geometry to FVS Cubic Foot Volume (CFV), and translate those logs into prices through the RPA Forecast. The final step is wetware—professional judgment that honors biology, market rules, and appraisal standards.

Inputs: Biometrics

  • Species, DBH (DOB), Total Height
  • Crown Ratio (required)
  • Upper-stem diameter when available (BLC / 16′ / 32′)
  • Stump height (mandatory for precise SED)

DOB→DIB conversion uses species-specific bark thickness factors; geometry honors biological form.

Engine: Flex Taper (δ)

  • Solves δ so modeled taper matches FVS CFV
  • Generates merchantable log segments by region policy
  • Assigns obligatory grade changes inside live crown

Patent Pending. Flex Taper™ reconciles measured form to FVS volume before pricing.

Market: RPA Forecast

  • Applies grade- and species-specific price paths
  • Uses current observed prices; projects forward
  • Outputs per-tree → per-acre value with expansion

Logging, trucking, overhead, and reforestation are applied via the Delivered Log Market Portfolio.

The Value-Discovery Chain

Field Biometrics → DOB→DIB → Flex Taper (δ) fits CFV → 32′/16′ log policy & crown-grade rules → ScribnerVolumeTable lookup (sawlogs) + tons (pulp) → RPA Forecast → costs → Net value.

Why “Wetware” Matters

FRASS automates what should be automated—taper fitting, table lookups, pricing paths. The rest is judgment. Defect location, crown boundary recognition, eastside vs. westside log policies, and stand-level feasibility are professional calls. FRASS documents those calls, keeps them consistent, and shows their economic consequences.

Assurance and Controls

  • Reconciliation first: δ is solved so geometric volume equals FVS CFV before any pricing.
  • Tables, not formulas: Sawlog volumes come from ScribnerVolumeTable. Pulp is handled in tons.
  • Obligatory grade rules: Logs inside live crown cannot be up-graded by preference.
  • Regional policy switches: Westside 32′ standard vs. Eastside 16′, with mid-length checks at 17.5′ as required.

Flex Taper™ algorithm and δ-estimation procedures are Patent Pending. Demonstrations disclose function and outputs, not internal solver details.
